Tuesday, January 217:00—8:00 PMVIRTUAL PROGRAM - Peabody Institute Library, 15 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923 - 978-774-0554
When television arrived in Boston, it created a new form of visual entertainment, with local and national stars and all kinds of wonderful programs. Join media historian and former broadcaster Donna Halper for a Zoom presentation, as she takes you through seven decades of Boston television, focusing on some of the biggest events and the biggest names. We'll look at the beginnings of Boston TV back in 1948, recall the arrival of televised news and sports, and the debut of Boston's first educational station, WGBH. We'll talk about some national stars who were very popular in Boston, and we'll remember such local favorites as Jack Chase, Rex Trailer, Big Brother Bob Emery, Bozo the Clown, Candlepin Bowling, Community Auditions, Chet and Natalie, Jack and Liz, Mike Lynch, Bob Lobel, Julia Child, and so many more!
Donna Halper is a media historian, professor, author, and public speaker. She is also an 2023 Inductee, Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
